Lead Drug Candidate STX107 | ||||||||||||||||
|
STX107 is the lead compound from a series of highly potent and selective mGluR5 antagonists in-licensed from Merck. STX107 is a small molecule invented, patented, and extensively characterized in preclinical assays and behavioral models by Merck scientists. Based on scientific insights and discoveries made by Seaside Therapeutics' scientific founder Mark Bear, Ph.D., these antagonists provide a compelling opportunity to treat symptoms associated with fragile X syndrome, autism and other developmental disorders. These discoveries have resulted in patent applications for the use of mGluR5 antagonists to treating various developmental disorders including an issued patent for treatment of fragile X syndrome. STX will undergo appropriate IND -enabling studies and we hope to begin Phase I testing in man in 2008. Program Status STX will initiate IND -enabling studies in collaboration with Merck scientists following ICH guidelines for development and testing of a new chemical entity in humans. We are consulting with clinical and regulatory experts to design an appropriate development pathway to allow testing of STX107 in individuals with fragile X syndrome. We anticipate that initial studies will evaluate symptomatic treatment in adults with fragile X syndrome. Assuming an acceptable safety and efficacy profile, the ultimate goal would be early intervention in younger children as well as treatment of symptoms in older children and adults. During this development program, we also intend to perform studies in subjects with autism and other disorders of brain development.
