Autism - Clinical Trials
STX209
Overview
STX209 (arbaclofen) is a selective gamma-amino butyric acid type B (GABA-B) receptor agonist. STX209 inhibits glutamate signaling in the brain and should thereby indirectly inhibit excessive metabotropic glutamate receptor (mGluR) mediated protein synthesis. Preclinical studies using STX209 and other prototypic GABA agonists in animal models of the brain disorder Fragile X have demonstrated profound efficacy. Seaside believes that GABA agonists may also provide significant benefits to individuals with other disorders of brain development including autism.
Program Status
Seaside has completed a Phase 1 study of STX209 in healthy volunteers and initiated a Phase 2 clinical trial in adolescents with autism spectrum disorders in March of 2009. For more information on the Phase 2 study please visit www.clinicaltrials.gov. Assuming an acceptable safety and efficacy profile, the ultimate goal would be to expand the study to include younger children.
